Ottawa Valley Air Cadet League

If your son or daughter is interested in joining cadets please follow the step by step instructions outlined on this page. To be eligible for membership in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets a candidate must:

  • Have reach his/her 12th, but not 19th birthday;
  • Not belong to another Cadet Unit;
  • Produce evidence of Physical Fitness;
  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant, or be an international student under the guardianship of a Citizen or Landed Immigrant;
  • Be acceptable to the Commanding Officer of the Squadron; and
  • Have parental or Guardian permission.

Step 1

Consult our web page “Ottawa Valley Squadrons” to find an air cadet squadron near you. Check out that Squadron’s website for information on meeting nights and timings. Once you have found a Squadron that is right for you, feel free to visit them on a training night so you can see firsthand what is all about.

Step 2

Paperwork!

Before starting to fill out the paperwork listed below it is important to compile a few things to make filling the forms in easier.  These items are listed below:

  • Provincial/Territorial health card

Any one of the following proofs of identity:

  • Valid Canadian passport;
  • A birth certificate issued by Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal government agency;
  • A valid identification card, visa or permit (work, study, resident, etc.), with picture, delivered by a Canadian federal government agency which legally authorizes the holder to reside in Canada for an extended period of time;
  • A valid identification card, with or without picture, issued by a Canadian federal, provincial, or territorial government agency

*Note a baptismal certificate issued by a religious order will not be accepted as a proof of identity

  • Where applicable, a copy of the relevant section of the court decree or judgement or separation agreement defining the legal guardian access rights; and
  • Where applicable, a copy of the relevant section of the court decree or judgement imposing restrictions, obligations and/or conditions on the cadet.

Step 3

Once all the material is compiled there are two forms that need to be filled in for the enrolment process.  These two forms can be found as links below this information.  The preferred method is to have them filled in on your computer and then print them out and bring them in during one of our training nights.  If you do not have access to a computer hooked up to a printer then hard copies of all the forms can be picked up at the Squadron during a regular training night.
The forms required for enrolment include the:

DND 1158 – The application for enrolment
D2570 – The health questionnaire.

Step 4

Once all of the correct forms are filled out and the proper documentation from Step 1 is compiled, the entire package can then be taken to one of our regular training nights. 

It is important that parents accompany their children in with the required forms on the first night as there is the potential that there may be more paperwork required depending on the completion of the paperwork as well as the responses to certain questions on the basic health questionnaire.
